Ayesha Curry, the wife of NBA superstar Steph Curry, is not one to sit down whether at a Golden State Warriors game or outside of the arena. While her husband builds his dynasty on the court, Ayesha is building her own in the food industry.

In the span of only a few short years, Ayesha started her own blog, operated her own pop-up restaurant, wrote her own cookbook, has her own show on the Food Network, and followed that by branded meal kits, upcoming cookware line, and now her own brick-and-mortar restaurant. All this plus raising an adorable daughter and 4.7 million Instagram following her every venture.
What started as a pop-up, Ayesha plans to open her International Smoke concept later this year. Situated across the bay from her husband in Millennium Tower off Mission Street, the restaurant will feature BBQ from around the world.
The restaurant continues the collaboration but her and renowned chef Michael Mina. The pop-up began last year in Mina’s Test Kitchen for a three-month run. The restaurant proved to be so popular and brought in the likes of Drake and of course, her husband Steph, it extended its run to six months.
Mina is no stranger to sports clientele. The James Beard award winner runs the Bourbon Steak and Bourbon Pub, a restaurant at Levi’s Stadium which transforms into Michael Mina’s Tailgate during home games in the fall.
Ayesha and Mina met, coincidentally, over dinner at the current site of International Smoke, RN74. The Currys were dining in the restaurant when Ayesha asking Mina more and more about the restaurant industry. Fast forward years later, Mina is closing RN74 in order to make way for her BBQ joint.
International Smoke will feel and taste much like the pop-up. It’ll feature cuisine from around the world - St. Louis pork ribs, Singapore-style black pepper barbecue lobster, slow-cooked char sui pork shoulder and spicy merguez sausage. Last year it was packaged as a $45 four-course, family-style meal. TBD whether guests can order a la carte later this year.
"Ayesha and I have worked on this project for quite some time and are excited to share a lighter side of barbecue, featuring global flavors and cooking techniques with signature Mina Group hospitality that you've come to know,” Mina wrote to Millennium Tower homeowners.
As for Ayesha, between this, the children’s cookware line also to launch this fall (and don’t forget about Steph working on his second ring), the breakneck pace continues for the rising culinary star. Check back for more info on International Smoke as it nears opening.
