Everything is sponsored these days, including retirement send-offs. The Houston Texans DT and former New England Patriot announced his retirement this past Monday and he did it in a way suitable for a 300lb man. The 13-year veteran posted a video of him grilling while announcing that he will be hanging up his cleats for the last time.
"No more cleats," Wilfork said in the video. "I'm moving on to smoke meats, fellas."
Wilfork, a five-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl champion played the last two seasons in Houston after playing his first 11 in New England.
The former Patriot won a Super Bowl ring in his rookie year (2004) with New England as well as his last season (2014).
He’ll be hosting a “Farewell Tailgate” in New England on September 7 before the regular-season opener between the Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Time will tell if this is a one-off sponsorship or the beginning of an extended relationship between Wilfork and Kingsford, but one thing is for certain. The man can eat.
