The Oakland A's this season are working hard at enhancing the fan experience. One key element - the food. The A's have partnered with Spectra by Comcast Spectator, their hospitality provider at Oakland Coliseum to offer up many new dishes for fans to try out this season.
As promised, the Oakland A’s have launched their new West Side Club attraction, the Shibe Park Tavern. The Tavern will feature an extensive new menu constructed by Executive Chef Effie Speigler. Chef admits that some of the choices are outside of what you normally see at a ballgame, but thinks they will be a hit stating, “The stadium needed this – the fans, they needed this. This is long overdue.” At a preseason tasting party fans got of taste of the versatile menu that is far from your average stadium fare.
Sidewinder Fries / Source: Spectra
Batting leadoff on the menu are the garlic pub “sidewinder” fries that are located near the first base-side seats. A combination of steak fries and curly fries, this twist on a classic side dish are anything but traditional. The garlic flavor is cooked right into crunchy crust and it is all topped off with a heaping helping of Gilroy’s favorite flower.
Ballpark Dog / Source: Spectra
Next, grab yourself another stadium staple the ballpark hotdog. Chef Effie’s version is more of a sausage with a crispy bacon wrapper. After the explosion of flavor, all this dog needs is a little dash of mustard to solidify it as a colossal Coliseum success.
Caprese Turkey Burger / Source: Spectra
Every menu needs a burger, but this creation is not your everyday patty. Taste the new Caprese Turkey Burger designed with a delicious mix of flavors. The burger is topped off with a basil aioli, buffalo mozzarella and marinated tomatoes. Yum!
Looking for something quick, grab a sandwich. Root on the A’s with this A+ grilled cheese that takes black forest ham, turkey, and Gruyere smashed between two buttery slices of texas toast.
Loaded Tots / Source: Spectra
If you aren’t worried about beach season, try your hand at the loaded tater tots with nacho cheese, chives, and sour cream. But if that’s not enough, nestle it up next to the fried chicken and waffle sandwich, complete with a side of maple syrup. That meal is sure to put a smile on your face.
Coliseum Salad / Source: Spectra
If you are a little more health conscious or a vegetarian, the Oakland A's has you covered too. The Coliseum Salad is a sweet and tangy blend of Mandarin Oranges, beets, shallots, candied walnuts, goat cheese and balsamic dressing tossed in a bath of baby watercress. With the inclusion of goat cheese, this dish is not vegan, but new team president Dave Kaval has instituted that A’s fans living an animal by-product-free lifestyle will have options at the ballpark as well.
If you thought veggie options are an odd thing to find at the ballpark, wait ‘til you try Chef Speigler signature poke tacos. A shoyu — soy sauce — ahi poke with hints of Maui (sweet) onions and macadamia nuts laid over a bed of fresh guacamole and wrapped in a crispy wonton shell. Chef Speigler adds that the key to the poke tacos is the quality of fish and that will be what makes the dish stand out as a stadium favorite.
S'more Lava Cake / Source: Spectra
Finally for dessert, S’more food! S’more what? The S’mores Lava Cake is the Coliseum’s take on the classic baseball movie “the Sandlot.” This molten lava cake monstrosity is where diets go to die.
