The season starts this Saturday and there's a lot to be excited about at Chase Field in 2017. Hospitality partner Levy Restaurants have pulled out all the stops to make a great first impression for opening day which includes an update to the acclaimed Churro Dog... but we'll get to that.
Let's get to the one that might break the wallet; the Chicken Enchilada Dog that will set you back a mere $25. Located at Big Dawgs in Section 126, this thing comes in at a whopping 18 inches. It's chicken enchilada sausage topped with queso blanco, enchilada sauce, pico de gallo, black olives, sour cream, and tortilla strips served on a telera roll.
Fortunately, not every new item is that expensive. The D'Backs proudly boast that they have the lowest Fan Cost Index ($126.99) in Major League Baseball for the eighth consecutive year according to Team Marketing Report. What is Fan Cost Index? It's a representative look at the costs for a family of four to attend an MLB game. It likely goes without saying the family of four will likely not be getting four Chicken Enchilada Dogs, but that might be getting what's below.
One of the other major new items creating headlines is the Funnel Cake Chicken Sandwich ($11). The crispy chicken fillet is topped with garlic black pepper cheddar, strawberry jam, powdered sugar and maple syrup, and served on two funnel cakes. It's served at Taste of Chase in Section 130.
Also at Taste of Chase is the Bacon Wrapped Pretzel Baguette for $16. The 12-inch baguette is stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, and served with honey mustard and roasted jalapeño ranch on the side.
Food is "a big part of that overall experience," Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall told The Arizona Republic. "We have moved way past just hot dogs and peanuts, and have truly made Chase Field a food destination and one that our fans won’t find at any other ballpark.”
Meat not your thing? Don't worry - Chase Field also added the Sonoran Vegan Burger for $10. It's topped with vegan pepper jack cheese, soy chorizo, chipotle vegan mayonnaise, cowboy caviar, and guacamole served on a wheat pretzel bun. It's sold at Red Hot in Section 123.
A couple more quick hits - 18-hour smoked beef brisket, barbacoa beef nachos, and a Bacon Cheeseburger Mac and Cheesy.
None of that prepares you for the Churro Dog 2.0. This churro dog is rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs sandwiches in a white iced doughnut, topped with frozen yogurt, strawberry topping, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and more Oreo crumbs. This is all true.
If you're going for the value meal at the ballpark, look no further than the All-You-Can-Eat Seats. They start at $34 and include unlimited access to ballpark traditions such as hot dogs, chips, popcorn, peanuts, Aquafina and Pepsi soft drinks in a special section on the Diamond Level. The D-backs also offer Value Item pricing on six food items ranging from $1.50-$4 at various concession locations. In addition, the team offers the best price for beer in baseball at $4, which is more than $2 below the MLB average beer price at $6.09.
