If the Stanley Cup wasn’t enough, there is even more at stake between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks. The mayors of each town placed a friendly wager on the series perfect for foodies.
If the Sharks win the series, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo gets a gift basket of Pittsburgh’s famous Primanti sandwiches and Heinz products.
If the Penguins win, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto will feast on some Gordon Biersch garlic fries and beer along with La Victoria Taqueria famous Orange sauce. The losing city’s mayor will also make a charitable donation to the winner’s choice – either Destination: Home in San Jose or Hill House Association in Pittsburgh.
Not a bad deal for either Mayor so far. But the loser must also post a social media photo of himself wearing the other team’s jersey. The jersey will be later auctioned off for charity.
Mayors aren’t the only ones getting in on fun. Senators are also squaring off. U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) are betting Pittsburgh’s own Wigle Whiskey vs. California chardonnay.
The Penguins took game 1 at home on Monday with a 3-2 win over the Sharks. Game 2 is tonight at the Consul Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
